National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) in collaboration with UNESCO, New Delhi office organized a Workshop on Experience Sharing: River Water Quality Monitoring on 19th and 20th June 2023 in Thimphu. The primary objective of this workshop was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences between experts from India and relevant stakeholders in Bhutan regarding river water quality monitoring.


The program witnessed the active participation of various stakeholders, including the Department of Infrastructure Development, Department of Water, Department of Public Health, Department of Environment and Climate Change (DoECC), Dzongkhag Administrations of Thimphu and Paro, and the College of Natural Resources. This diverse group of attendees represented different sectors and institutions involved in water management, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts. The workshop was supported by UNESCO through the project “Integrated Water Resource Management for Bhutan’s Future Water Security for Cities and Climate Resilient Development". Under this project NCHM is initiating the pilot monitoring of the Ambient Water Quality of the Thimchu and Pachu. The project will end by June 2023.
