National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology

The Meteorological Satellite Center (MSC) of Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has Meteorological observation from the MTSATbeen operating a series of Geostationary Meteorological Satellites (GMSs) since 1978, which is nicknamed "HIMAWARI". Himawari-8 carries an imaging sensor and captures earth images from space over the Western Pacific region day and night continually.

The HimawariCast was installed at the National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology in March, 2016 under the Project "The Project for Capacity Development of GLOF and Rainstorm Flood Forecasting and Early Warning in the Kingdom of Bhutan".

The images from Himawari-8 are used for weather analysis, forecast and severe weather monitoring, and contribute to prevention and mitigation of natural disasters, such as heavy rain and heavy snow.
