  Report on the Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘YAAS’- Update 1

The Cyclonic Storm ‘YAAS’ (pronounced as Yass) formed as a low pressure on 23rd May, 2021 has now intensified as a severe cyclonic storm since 12 UTC of 24th May, 2021. It is likely to move north northwestwards and intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours.  It is very likely to make landfall on extreme north Odisha between Chandbali and Digha around noon of 26th May, 2021 as a Very Severe Cyclonic storm as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Impact over Bhutan

Bhutan is away from the forecast track of the cyclone. However, under the influence of the cyclone, cloudy weather with light to moderate rain is likely over the country during the next 72 hours (towards the evening of 26th May to 28th May). Moderate rain with thunder and lightning over the southern and isolated places of central parts of the country is forecasted during the same period.
