PRESS RELEASE

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 27 April, 2022 between the Department of Forest and Park Services (DoFPS), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) for the “Long-term Climate Monitoring within the State Reserved Forests of the Kingdom of Bhutan”. Mr. Lobzang Dorji, Director, DoFPS and Mr. Karma Dupchu, Director, NCHM signed the MoU in the conference hall of the DoFPS., MoA.

With the support of Bhutan for Life (BFL) GCF project, NCHM in partnership with the DoFPS is setting up climate monitoring stations within Protected Area and RAMSAR sites at Bumdeling (T/Yangtse), Phobjikha (Wangdi), Singye Dzong (Lhuntse), Ganjula glacier (Gasa) and Sakten (Trashigang). Under this partnership MoU, NCHM will provide the technical support and the DoFPS will carry out observation and minor maintenance through the concerned Forest and Park Offices to ensure sustainable data collection.

Beside joint operation of long term climate monitoring and data collection, the MoU is expected to promote partnership and collaboration between two agencies in climate change research and other areas of mutual interest.
