8th National Climate Outlook Forum
The National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) conducted the 8th National Climate Outlook Forum (NCOF), Lobesa, Punakha on the 27th May, 2022. The NCOF brings together the service provider and users in Bhutan on the use of seasonal climate information and other climate services. NCOF-8 was held with the following objectives:
1. Sharing the seasonal climate information and the monsoon outlook for the upcoming summer monsoon (June - September 2022) and media briefing.
2. Stakeholder consultation of the Hydro-Met policy.
3. GCF project awareness and engagement of stakeholders and communities.
4. Introduction to the agricultural drought watch platform and stakeholder users feedback.
The session was chaired by Mr. Karma Dupchu, Director NCHM. Lopen Sonam Rinchen, Vice Principal of Pangrizampa College of Astrology, Zhung Dratsang also attended the session to provide the astrological outlook on the rainfall for this year
NCOF-8 was attended by officials from climate sensitive sectors, cooperation and, NGOs.
During the workshop the Centre issued the Press Release for Precipitation and Temperature Outlook for Summer Monsoon (June - September, 2022)
Rainfall Forecast for 2022 Summer Season
The summer rainfall for Bhutan during the 2022 June - September (JJAS) monsoon season is most likely to be slightly above normal. Normal is the average rainfall for the summer season (JJAS) of Bhutan from 1996 to 2021.
Temperature Forecast for 2022 Summer Season
The maximum and minimum temperature in Bhutan during the 2022 JJAS monsoon season is likely to be slightly above normal. Normal is the average temperature (maximum and minimum) for the summer season (JJAS) of Bhutan from 1996 to 2021.
